Gioconda Belli
A Nicaraguan-born novelist, poet, and activist, Belli shows readers that the simplest lessons can be found if they open their eyes and slow down to see the beauty around them. ‘Workshop of Butterflies’ has now been produced as a play and is being made into a film.


Eric Carle
Eric Carle is acclaimed and beloved as the creator of boldly illustrated and innovatively designed picture books for very young children. His best-known work, ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, has eaten its way into the hearts of millions of children all over the world and has been translated into more than 30 languages and sold over 22 million copies.

Lucy Cousins
Maisy, the famous mouse, "drew herself" one day, when Lucy was doodling various animals on a piece of paper, looking for inspiration, and the first Maisy book was published soon after Lucy left college. Maisy has become one of the best-loved characters in children's books, and is recognized the world over. Lucy won the Bologna Ragazzi Non-fiction Prize 1997 for Maisy's House and has been Highly Commended for the National Art Illustration Award 1997 for Za Za's Baby Brother. Jazzy in the Jungle won the Smarties Book Prize in 2002. Her latest book, Hooray for Fish!, published in 2005, is a celebration of life under the sea! Lucy lives in Hampshire with her husband and has four children.


Wolf Erlbruch
Erlbruch, a professor of illustration at the Wuppertal University, is the author of over 25 illustrated books published worldwide, and the recipient of many international prizes including the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration.


Taro Gomi
Born in 1945 in Tokyo. After graduating from design school, Gomi became an industrial designer before turning his hand to children's picture books.
His prolific activities now extend to include essay writing, fashion and stationery design, animated cartoons for linguistic education and CD ROM production and he enjoys great popularity among children and adults alike.

Eric Hill
In 1976, Eric's son Christopher was born. When Christopher was two, Eric made up a story to read to him at bedtime about a small puppy. The extraordinary success of Where’s Spot?, published in 1980, gave Eric Hill the confidence to work full-time as an author. The second title, Spot’s first Walk, was published a year later. The publishing phenomenon that is Spot was born!


Vangelis Iliopoulos
Vangelis Iliopoulos was born in Athens and since 1984 has taught in primary schools. His work has won awards from the Women’s Literary Circle and two distinctions from the Greek Children’s Circle (the Greek branch of IBBY), and was included in the list of honour at the Fourth International Literary Competition at Bordano in Italy. A member of the International Reading Association, he also organises charity events.


 Suzy Lee
Suzy Lee is a picture and book artist who was born in Seoul. With an MA in Book Arts and a BFA in Painting, Suzy has won many accolades for both her children's books and her art.

Leo Lionni
Lionni is considered to be a 20th-century Aesop who opened the doors of children's books to the best that modern art and design has to offer. He was honoured with an American Institute of Graphic Arts Gold Medal and he received four Caldecott Honor Book Silver Medals for his children's books. He died at the age of 89 in 1999, but his books live on to delight and enrich children throughout the world.

Paul Maar
This storyteller and inventor of verses, riddles, letter and word games is one of the most distinguished German authors of children’s and young adults' literature. Paul Maar's works have been translated into more than 20 languages and have been honoured with, among others, the Grand Prize by the German Academy for Children's and Young Adults' Literature, and the Special Award of the German Young People's Literature Prize.  In 1998 he received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. 


Jan Pienkowski
Born in Warsaw, into a family of architects and artists, Pienkowski is best known for his work on the series Meg and Mog - the much-loved duo of a witch and her cat. He has twice won the Greenaway Medal. Jan's other books include the Nursery series, pop-up books like Haunted House, Robot and Little Monsters, and sound effect books like Phone Book and Door Bell. Today, most of Pienkowski's work is done on a computer.


Anu Stohner
Born 1952 in Helsinki, Anu Stohner works as a freelance translator and writer in Munich. Her translations from Finnish, Swedish and English have received several awards.


David Walser
Walser is a writer, translator, artist and musician who has written two books,  both in collaboration with Jan Pienkowski.

Henrike Wilson
Having studied graphical design and painting in Cologne and the USA, Henrike Wilson now works as a free-lance illustrator, and is known for soft-edged and simple yet bold illustrations.
